Research and Surveys
- Stanford Health Care tested GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 models with 64 general clinical questions and compared the output of the models to consultation reports. Researchers found that more than 90% of GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 answers were safe, meaning they wouldn’t lead to patient harm. At the same time, clinicians couldn’t assess agreement with the known answer 28% of the time, which is something researchers intend to look at further.
- A study from CWH Advisors and Synchrony found that 63% of providers have RCM staffing shortages, and 61% expect to work with third parties for help. Further compounding the problem: 59% of providers rate patient health literacy as poor despite their education efforts.
- Libman Education is seeking input from the health IT community for its fifth annual HIM Professional Census. This year’s survey aims to address several new topics, including SDOH, workforce skill development, managing offshore and domestic workforces, and transitioning to ICD-11.
- A survey from care coordination company Quantum Health discovered that 67% of employees don’t receive help from employers to navigate their healthcare journey. The survey also found that only 20% of employees are very confident in knowing how to use their health benefits.
- The latest monthly trends report from Syntellis showed a -0.9% operating margin for hospitals in February. This contrasts with a 16% year-over-year increase in outpatient revenue – and, the company said, suggests hospitals must “adapt to evolving patient behaviors and payer incentives.”

- Zocalo Health is partnering with Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus Drugs to provide low-cost medications to the Latino community.
- LeanTaaS is partnering with Siemens Healthineers to make its capacity management products available to Siemens customers.

- Interoperability company Lyniate rebranded as Rhapsody, which was the company’s original name before its 2019 merger with Corepoint Health.
- Zocdoc added federally qualified health centers to its marketplace.
- Kyruus subsidiary HealthSparq unveiled Validated Provider Profiles to help health plans maintain compliant, up-to-date member-facing directories.
- Corl introduced Corl Cleared, which distills complex third-party risk management contracts into a set of core key requirements.
- Electronic Caregiver updated Addison Care, its care management platform, with dynamic patient reminders and more diverse avatars.
- SpendMend achieved HITRUST i1 Certification; the company’s software helps hospitals identify opportunities to reduce costs.
- 4medica received HITRUST r2 Certification for its Data Quality Platform.
- Handheld ultrasound device maker Butterfly Network received FDA received 510(k) clearance for Auto B-line Counter, which evaluates lung ultrasound images.
- Synapse Biomedical received premarket approval form the FDA for NeuRx Diaphragm Pacing System, which helps patients with spinal cord injuries breathe without a ventilator.

- Northwell Health selected Philips to standardize patient monitoring across the 21-hospital system.
- Intermountain Health is expanding its use of Kyruus ProviderMatch to rebuild the health system’s 15,000-provider directory.
- Florida-based Palm Plastic Surgery & Medspa selected eClinicalWorks Cloud EHR.

- Western New York HIE HealtheLINK was named one of the Phase 2 winners of Building Bridges to Better Health, a primary care challenge sponsored by HRSA.
- The Top 100 Magazine recognized Doug Frederick, President and Chief Executive Officer of preventive health platform HealthCues, as one of its Top 100 Innovators & Entrepreneurs.

- HIMSS confirmed that more than 2,000 C-suite executives from provider organizations have committed to attending HIMSS23 in Chicago later this month.
