healthKERI provides secure data exchange by allowing endpoints to verify themselves and maintain their own secret keys, removing the overhead of trusted third parties and their certification processes from data exchange. CEO and Founder Jared Jeffery, MBA, FACHDM, says in this video filmed at the DirectTrust conference that they offer an open standard for data exchange based on mature technologies in use at other industries. They call it a Zero Trust Exchange.
The video also interviews Kenneth Deans, Jr. DHA, MBA, President and CEO at Health Sciences South Carolina, which is partnering with healthKERI. healthKERI is two years old and recently completed a proof of concept with Health Sciences South Carolina which they talk about in the interview. Plus, Deans shares some of the use cases he sees for this new method of data security.
healthKERI has recently undergone a penetration test by a third party, trying to break security in a variety of situations. It’s one thing to say that you offer a secure protocol and it’s another to be able to demonstrate it by a third party. The testing demonstrated that healthKERI is robust and can securely transfer data.
healthKERI is also looking at novel forms of verification. For instance, reproductive data for patients in California cannot legally be shared outside that state. healthKERI has a solution that lets a sender verify the location of the recipient. healthKERI also wants to work with other protocols.
Watch the video for more discussion of issues in security, standards, and format-agnostic data exchange.
