To learn more about how they’re doing it and the new organization that brings together Access Healthcare, SmarterDx, and Thoughtful.ai into one company, we sat down with Shaji Ravi, CEO at Access Healthcare.
We start off by talking with Ravi about why getting paid and operating efficiently has been such a long standing challenge in healthcare. He described how in many ways this is getting even more challenging as the cost of leveraging human resources continues to increase even outside the US. That’s why an AI-driven platform approach like the one Smarter Technologies has put together is going to be so important for healthcare organizations.
Although the cost of billing is top-most on most managers’ minds, Ravi thinks that the “quality of the transaction” is more imporant. By using sophisticated AI and eliminating human error, they are working to achieve 99.9% approval rates for billing. And they believe that providers need AI solutions to match the power of the payers, who are using AI to deny claims.
In theory, the EHR vendors could provide these revenue management services, but Ravi says they haven’t done so. This leaves many healthcare organizations at a disadvantage with the payers who have invested significantly more resources in AI and other technologies. It’s time for hospitals, who have been investing in EHRs, interoperability, data security, and more, to level the playing field by investing in AI like their payer partners are doing.
