Studies
- Paper is no longer the dominant means of sending healthcare information, according to a recent ASTP/ONC data brief. In 2023, 67% of hospitals reported using mail or fax often or sometimes, compared to 74% for HISPs. Oddly, mail or fax are the predominant way hospitals are receiving information.
- Two-thirds of patients still schedule their appointments over the phone, according to a recent AdvancedMD survey.
- A survey from CHIME and CliniComp found 48% of CIOs believe it’s extremely important for AI capabilities to be natively embedded in the EHR.
- A global survey from Firely and HL7 International found FHIR is mandated or recommended in 73% of countries with health data regulation, but only 16% of countries impose penalties for non-compliance.
- Fewer than one in three clinicians (32%) feel institutions support their use of AI tools, according to a recent Elsevier Health report, and only 30% say they receive enough AI training.
- Healthcare was hit with 52 ransomware attacks in Q2, according to data from BlackFog. That’s the most of any industry the company tracked; the public sector followed with 45 attacks.
- Only 5% of Americans have an advance care plan in place, according to a survey from Backline by DrFirst. Only half of Americans are familiar with the concept in the first place.
- While the total number of mental health providers in the U.S. increased by 11.4% between 2020 and 2024, nine states saw a decrease, according to research from LexisNexis Risk Solutions.

- RCM vendor Omega Healthcare expanded its collaboration with Microsoft, launching more than 20 generative and agentic AI solutions built on Azure.

- Practices can now use the athenahealth Marketplace to identify and integrate with risk-bearing organizations.

- Teladoc Health launched Wellbound, an employee assistance program.
- ViralGains expanded VG Health, which help healthcare and pharmaceutical marketers engage audiences while meeting strict compliance standards.
- Workflow optimization vendor Wellsheet announced Care Team Copilot, which generates documentation based on patient charts in real time.

- Israel’s Sheba Medical Center selected Hippocratic AI‘s generative AI capabilities.
- Kansas-based Patterson Health Center is adopting Oracle Health CommunityWorks and the Oracle Health Clinical AI Agent.
- Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust adopted UpToDate Enterprise Edition from Wolters Kluwer Health.
