< + > GE Healthcare Uses DICOM Data and Image Clarity to Improve Radiology Workflows

Clarity matters in healthcare operations. When imaging teams understand how long exams actually take and radiologists see what they need to see the first time, access improves almost immediately. GE Healthcare is focusing on both sides of that equation.

Lily Belcak, Customer Success Leader at GE Healthcare shared how the company uses DICOM data and patient information to suggest adjustments to imaging appointment times. In many cases, those changes free up capacity for additional patients without adding staff or equipment.

Laura Hernandez, Chief Marketing Officer, Women’s Health and X-ray walked through how Pristina Recon DL delivers sharper images faster. That clarity supports quicker reads for radiologists and reduces the need for repeat scans.

Using DICOM Data to Improve Workflow

DICOM data offers an unbiased view of imaging operations. As Belcak explained, “What makes it unique is it’s coming directly from your device. It’s as objective as it could possibly be. It’s not dependent on any human error or someone pressing start or stop when the exam stopped or ended.”

By analyzing this data alongside patient information, the system can recommend changes to scheduled exam times. Some exams require more time, but many take less than expected. Right-sizing appointments opens additional slots and improves access without guessing.

Higher Quality Images for Women’s Health

“We don’t want to miss a cancer, right?” explained Hernandez. “But at the same time, we know that radiologists are dealing with a huge amount of data and complexity in their daily jobs. So, we really aimed at creating a solution that helps them do a faster reading.”

Pristina Recon DL uses two AI models to reconstruct images. One analyzes full 3D datasets, while the other focuses on the 2D synthesized views radiologists rely on most. Clearer images reduce uncertainty, speed interpretation, and limit the need for follow-up scans.

Together, these changes show how modest improvements in scheduling accuracy and image clarity can add up to smoother radiology operations over time.
