Michael Campbell, Chief Product Officer at Hyland, is blunt about where digital pathology struggles today. Adoption is moving, but the operational scaffolding has not kept pace. Hyland is addressing this challenge by bringing its enterprise approach to managing unstructured imaging data to pathology in partnership with Tribun Health.
Digital pathology meets enterprise content management
The partnership between Hyland and Tribun hinges on a clean division of labor. As Campbell put it, “We’ll rely on them for the digitization. We’ll rely on them [Tribun], frankly, for the ongoing analysis of this kind of content. And we’ll bring our expertise in that backend content management to bear on those problems.”
Digital pathology has been slow because there are fewer standards in that field compared to radiology. This means scale depends less on technology and more on governance, access control, and collaboration within and between provider organizations as well as the vendor community.
In a published statement, Jean-François Pomerol CEO at Tribun had this to say about the partnership, ““Pathology workflows are notoriously intricate, with massive datasets, critical timelines, and frequent collaboration requirements. By combining Tribun Health’s leading AI pathology platform, CaloPix®, with Hyland’s proven enterprise imaging capabilities, we’re advancing an end-to-end solution that addresses these intricacies by enabling healthcare organizations to dramatically transform their workflow and diagnostic capabilities.”
If digital pathology is going to scale, it has to move beyond point solutions and fit into the same operational expectations as the rest of enterprise imaging.
This push into pathology is happening in parallel to Hyland’s continued investment in AI. According to Campbell, the company will be bringing more agentic AI capabilities to its enterprise platform.
