emtelligent offers a variety of AI-based services in health care. In a recent interview at the HLTH conference with Tim O’Connell, MD, Co-Founder and CEO of emtelligent, explains how they ensure a good ROI, keep deployments affordable, and make each pilot a success.
The three services offered by emtelligent are:
- Medical Document AI: ingests documents such as faxes, splits them into separate documents, and categorizes them.
- Medical language engine: interprets and structures the content
- Chart review: offers a graphical user interface to make reviews more accurate and efficient for prior authorization, legal reviews, etc.
O’Connell points out that codes such as SNOMED and ICD-10 don’t reveal all the information necessary to diagnose the risks of a condition in each patient; emtelligent can extract these details from the unstructured data. This is valuable not only for clinicians but researchers and other users.
emtelligent can analyze a PDF to produce not only a patient summary, but advice as to whether the diagnosis meets the requirements for prior authorization. It can also aggregate data to aid surveillance and answer questions at the managerial level such as “How many patients showed up today with a particular condition?”
The goals of accuracy and cost are met at emtelligent by developing their own models, offering high recall and high precision that can’t be achieved through off-the-shelf LLMs. The accuracy of the data that actually makes it into production and not just a one off pilot builds trust. If clients want to submit data to a third-party LLM for further analysis, preprocessing and categorization by emtelligent vastly reduces the volume of data they need to submit as well.
