< + > Philips: Cloud Imaging is about Time and Access not Infrastructure

Dario Arfelli leads global marketing for Imaging Informatics at Philips, where cloud imaging is being framed less as an infrastructure shift and more as an operational correction. In conversations with clients and prospects, the discussion is more about time saved and access gained rather than the IT benefits of moving to the cloud.

Cloud Imaging, Workforce Pressure, and Time Back for Care

Radiology is becoming untethered…in a good way. More radiologists are reading remotely, freeing up valuable space in healthcare facilities.

As Arfelli puts it, “Before, radiologists were locked to the physical radiology department,” but now they have the freedom to operate from anywhere – a remote office, from home or in a different state. This is only possible with secure, reliable, cloud enterprise imaging.

The reliability of cloud infrastructure is one of the reasons Arfelli says the theme of conversations with prospects and clients has changed. “It’s all about time,” Arfelli said. “Radiologists don’t have time. IT departments don’t have time. Philips cloud imaging is giving back time to both.”  It is also giving provider organizations the freedom to operate in a manner that optimizes access for patients without burning out radiologists.

“We need a revolution,” claims Arfelli. “We need to change the way we are working in cardiology, radiology…any ‘ology’. So we need to give the tools to our clients to get to the next level. We listen to all our customers and they told us that what they need most is flexibility. They need to work from home, they need to have all the tools available that they would have in the office.”

Philips is continuing to add to its cloud capabilities to ensure radiologists can operate as efficiently as possible. “The future is on the cloud,” Arfelli concluded.
