Inner Logic Raises $11.5 Million Seed Round to Build Autonomy-Enabling Infrastructure for Procedural Devices
Inner Logic (formerly Semaphor) today announced an $11.5 million seed round co-led by General Catalyst and Bison Ventures with participation from J2VP, Defined, PTX, Valia Ventures, Page One, Alumni Ventures, and Flare. Inner Logic gives device manufacturers the infrastructure to design, test, and validate procedural devices across thousands of virtual patients and procedures before clinical deployment. The same infrastructure provides the capabilities needed to make surgical autonomy a reality.
“Surgery is on the same path as autonomous driving, which became real once the industry built the simulation and data systems to show a car could drive itself. At Inner Logic, we are building that layer for all of procedural medicine, starting with the way devices are designed and tested. When device makers can develop and prove intelligent systems this way, the quality of a patient’s care stops depending on which hospital they can access or which surgeon is on call,” said Tito Porras, MD, Co-Founder and CEO at Inner Logic.
Inner Logic was co-founded by CEO Tito Porras, MD, who left his neurosurgery residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital to build the company; CTO Mathias Unberath, PhD, an award-winning computer vision and simulation researcher at Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering; and Chief Robotics Officer Axel Krieger, PhD, an associate professor at Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering, whose robot performed the first autonomous laparoscopic surgery in a live animal. Together, the founders have authored more than 400 peer-reviewed publications and are named inventors on over 40 patents.

MitoSense and Aquila Health Enter Strategic Partnership to Build AI-Ready Data Infrastructure for Mitochondrial Medicine
Built on Aquila’s TREUE Standard, the Collaboration will Create a Governed, Longitudinal Data Foundation for Mitochondrial Medicine
MitoSense, Inc., a biotechnology company developing therapies that restore function for neurodegenerative, metabolic, and other diseases linked to mitochondrial dysfunction, today announced a strategic partnership with Aquila Health PBC, a healthcare data infrastructure company, to create an artificial intelligence-ready data foundation for its research, future clinical programs, and commercial activities. The collaboration is expected to help researchers better understand disease progression and treatment response in conditions such as ALS, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, Long COVID, and HIV.
As MitoSense’s strategic partner, Aquila will use its TREUE standard to create a governed, complete patient view by connecting fragmented healthcare data across systems. This addresses a central challenge in advanced medicine: researchers cannot fully understand disease progression, treatment response, and long-term outcomes without understanding the whole patient. Despite healthcare generating enormous volumes of data, an estimated 97% goes unused, leaving researchers with incomplete patient records that make it difficult to gain a multi-dimensional understanding of patient health over time.
For an emerging field such as mitochondrial medicine, this is particularly critical, as patient response may be shaped by medications, therapies, coexisting conditions, organ function, inflammation, metabolism, immune response, and long-term disease progression. For example, if a patient with ALS experiences slower disease progression, or a patient with Alzheimer’s disease demonstrates changes in cognitive function during a future clinical study, researchers need to understand whether those outcomes are associated with the investigational therapy or influenced by other medications, underlying conditions, or unrelated clinical factors. Without that context, important signals can be missed or clinical outcomes misinterpreted.

The companies will continue to evaluate how Aquila’s TREUE standard and related AI capabilities support MitoSense’s clinical research, outcome analytics, data management initiatives, and future project-based engagements. In time, the AI data foundation is expected to help MitoSense identify meaningful biomarkers, monitor safety, and generate the evidence needed to advance development of treatment programs.
