As healthcare gets more complex, revenue cycle management has gotten more complex as well as it becoming more difficult to find high quality RCM staff. That’s why it’s no surprise that many medical practices are outsourcing their RCM efforts. This was the case for Heather Boone, Clinical Supervisor at Orlando Heart and Vascular Institute, who decided to work with eClinicalWorks‘ revenue cycle management services. After choosing to have eClinicalWorks manage their RCM, they saw an increase of 30% in their reimbursements. Plus, payments are made an average of 21 days faster than before thanks for a mixture of eCW’s highly skilled staff, learnings they bring from managing other practices’ RCM, and leveraging AI.
Orlando is an independent practice with six providers and 40 employees. They started used the RCM service in January and saw great improvements right away.
Part of the advantage of eClinicalWorks’ service is simply that they have a lot of billers dedicated to the task, so that the bill for a visit often goes out on the same day. But the AI-driven processing is crucial as well.
Many errors are caught before the bill is sent out, preventing denials. The system can even suggest that a doctor downcode a visit because expensive codes have historically been rejected by the insurer.
Boone says that efficient RCM has allowed them to stay independent. In fact, along with staying independent, they have been able to expand their practice and generate new business around a recent purchase of a CT machine. This likely wouldn’t have been possible if they hadn’t worked to improve their RCM.
